The European Biosafety Network has produced a detailed toolkit to ensure the effective and consistent implementation of the European Directive on the Prevention of Sharp Injuries (2010/32/EU).

It is estimated that more than one million needlestick injuries occur in the European Union each year, and this toolkit provides advice and guidance on both the provisions of the Directive and the measures which employers and workers need to take in order to comply. A detailed risk assessment, information and awareness-raising, specific training, effective reporting of injuries and a collaborative approach between management and staff are all needed in order to ensure adherence to the Directive.
